Breed history
In the 1950's a black and white patterned Gelderland horse (Dutch carriage horse) jumped over a fence and covered a Friesian mare. The result of this was the progenitor of all baroque pintos - the stallion Bonte Nico.
The modern classic baroque pintos that exists today are cross-breeds of:
Friesian x Pinto
Friesian x Baroque Pinto
Warmblood x Baroque Pinto
Sometimes Lusitanos, Andalusians, Barb Horses and Lipizzaner horses are also cross-bred.
Sir Ludwig in traditional Baroque Pinto outfit
Baroque Pintos are typically very Friesian-like
-you could say they are a Friesian with a black and white pattern.
Their backs are short, and the croup is well muscled and round.
The baroque pinto is also equipped with a wide and muscular chest.
The short, strong and swan-like neck which used to carry a head with a little Roman nose is now a modern, small dry head. This is also very characteristic for the Baroque Pinto.
Baroque Pintos are all-rounders - they are suitable for dressage, driving and pleasure riding.
Their equable and friendly nature and their will to learn are distinguishing characteristics.
They are easy to keep, robust and unproblematic.
Height: 150cm - 165cm (14.3h - 16.2h)
Color: tobiano pattern, black

Temperament
Baroque pintos are known for their uncomplicated and strong-nerved being and are suitable for riding and driving because of their broad suitability. While doing this they reveal all of their strength, patience and gentleness to please 'their' human.
Distinctive strength of character, well-balanced temperament and good/robust health are desired breeding goals.
They are calm, have a very favourable attitude towards humans, are friendly and quick to learn.
